The MIS department works with many companies on several levels throughout the year and one such example is Avnet.
Avnet (AVT) is one of the world's largest trans-national distributors of electronic parts, enterprise computing, storage products and embedded subsystems. Avnet has helped the department Shape the Future of IT by partnering with us in the following ways.
Company facility tour – Company tours help bring hands-on experiences to students. Earlier this semester, 30 Zipperman Scholars toured Avnet’s facilities in Chandler. Students listened to presentations by Bruce Gorshe (Director, IT, Data Center Operations, Avnet, Inc.) and Steven Schultz (Director, Strategic Planning & Communications, Avnet Logistics.) The presentations helped to explain the inner workings of Avnet and expose students to the many career opportunities within Avnet and the MIS field. After the presentations, students toured Avnet’s vast distribution center and IT data center including the “war room.”
MISonline course customization – By using MISonline Enterprise Security courses as the content basis, Avnet and the department have been working towards customizing content to fit Avnet’s specific organizational needs. Customizing courses helps to meet Avnet's staffing, scheduling and budget needs while maximizing their investment returns with targeted subject matter. By working with our world-class instructors we can match the training pace and subject depth with the experience of Avnet’s staff to help provide the most efficient training possible.
Avnet Tech Games –The Avnet Tech Games (ATG) is an annual college technology competition that provides students an opportunity to apply what they learn in school to real-world scenarios and compete for scholarships.
The MIS department is proud to announce that at least four student teams will be participating in this year’s competition. Games in which MIS students will be competing include:
- AMD Fastest Computer
- Android App Showdown
- Accenture Green Data Center Challenge, and the
- Green Video Competitions
We wish our teams the best of luck on April 9th when they travel to Tempe to compete!
We thank Avnet for their commitment to the department and appreciate their help in Shaping the Future of It.
