MIS Master's Global Students Visit Pre-School

This summer, students attending the MIS Global Master’s Dual Degree Program are not only delving into their studies but also experiencing the American culture firsthand.

The students have already completed two semesters of MS or MBA courses at their home university in Hong Kong (specifically Harbin Institute of Technology and City University).

During the summer they will complete 20 MIS UA credits in Tucson then return to their home university to complete the program. When they graduate they will have earned a dual degree from their home country university and from the University of Arizona.

For most of the students this is the first time they have been to America and they are eager to learn all they can about the American culture. To help meet this need the MIS department made arrangements for them to visit the Kellner Learning Center, a local Tucson pre-school.

While at Kellner, the Global Master's (MS) students shared their Chinese culture with the 3–5 year olds. The MS students taught the 3-5 year olds how to write a few basic Chinese characters and visually demonstrated the distance between Tucson and China. In addition, the MIS students taught Chinese to the younger children; how to say “I love you Father” (in time for Father’s Day) and sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

As per the Global MS students

He Huang: “At first I felt a little nervous about meeting them, but when I saw these little cute kids, I really relaxed myself and enjoyed every minutes with them. They were curious about China and asked us to teach them how to speak and write Chinese! We sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in English first, and then in Chinese together. We taught them how to write their name in Chinese. The kids were all smart and lovely, I love them!”

Long Ma: “ Visiting Kellner Learning Center is such an amazing memory for me, it's my first time to have fun with American kids, they are so cute and friendly. I think this is a meaningful visit both for kids' interest building and the communication between different cultures, and also for us, as international students here, we will be better to blend in American society.”

Fan Wenjie:
Chinese:  小朋友们既聪明又可爱。
English  : The kids are cute and smart.

Chinese: 如果有机会,我们会再去看望这些小朋友。
English  : If we have another chance to go there, we would like to visit these little friends again.

Yating Wang: “I’m so glad that I could have to chance visiting the kids. They had great energy and fresh ideas that remind me of my childhood. They are all so smart and creative. It's a great experience! “

Yi Zhang: “The visit with the kids was a very special experience to me. To my surprise, the kids were so active, which is often not the case in China. Thanks!”
