Why can't I register for this course?
There is not one answer to this question. You may not have the proper pre-requisites to take a certain course. Also, MIS major courses are in high demand. In order to provide a quality learning experience, enrollment is restricted just to MIS majors. Most of our upper division classes require you to be a MIS or OM major and all require you to have advanced standing with the Eller College of Management.

Is it important to get involved in MISA?
Yes. MISA is a great organization. It will allow you to meet many other MIS majors. The other students may offer informal help on the MIS classes. You can interact with students in other classes. Many times, graduating seniors come back to recruit students the following year. By meeting them early, you will help yourself in the interviewing process. In addition, MISA brings in a guest speaker every week to talk about career options. This lets you learn more about what "really" happens in the MIS industry.

What do I do if I want to do an independent study?
All independent studies require a faculty sponsor. You make an agreement with an instructor to get credit for what you are planning on doing. There is a form in McClelland Hall 430 that you need to fill out. You also must get the instructor to sign a drop/add form to enroll in the independent study (MIS 399, MIS 499). After completion, they assign you credit for the independent study. An independent study requires registration and you have to pay for the additional units. Please note that an independent study counts only as a general elective, not as your MIS elective. It requires the same amount of work and learning as a regular 3-credit course.
