Students pursuing their PhD through other departments at The University of Arizona may also be able to obtain a minor in MIS. Obtaining an MIS Minor requires 12 units of MIS graduate courses (typically four courses) that will create a solid foundation in a particular area of MIS. At least two of the four courses must be chosen from the following list:

MIS 507b: Data Communications
MIS 531a: Data Structures and Algorithms
MIS 531b: Data Structures and Database Management
MIS 541a: Information Systems Analysis and Design
MIS 696d: Models for Quantitative Analysis

Students who are interested in this program should follow the procedure below.

• Browse the MIS Faculty Web pages to find an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor whose research interests match your career goals.
• Contact the faculty member you select and arrange to meet with the faculty.
• During the meeting you need to accomplish the following:
  - Obtain the faculty member.s approval to serve as your Minor advisor.
  - Obtain the faculty member's approval of your area of study.
  - Obtain the faculty member's signature on the documents required by your home department.
  
• Your Minor advisor can help you select the appropriate graduate-level courses and make decisions regarding any additional requirements for your Minor, including the Minor Preliminary Exam in reference to the specific requirements of your home department.
• Complete the approved courses and all Minor requirements according to your agreement with your Minor advisor within the timeframe established by your home department.
