While most students are away at internships or take the summer off, members of the Management Information Systems Graduate Association (MISGA) have been hard at work assisting incoming Eller College MIS students and planning for the fall semester.

With more than 80% of the incoming graduate class coming from outside the United States many students have questions about how to prepare for their studies in the United States and life in general in the Old Pueblo. MISGA board members have been assisting students with getting ready for the trip to Tucson through individual contact by answering questions and connecting classmates with individuals and resources prior to their journey.

In addition to providing personal contact and mentoring about everything from the visa process to packing suggestions, MISGA is coordinating transportation from the airport and providing temporary accommodations to help students settle in upon arrival.

In the past, many incoming students would arrive without knowing anyone in Tucson until orientation. Students would take cabs from the airport and stay in hotels until they were able to find permanent housing. Seeing a need to serve fellow students the MISGA Board stepped in to coordinate theses activities and provide the incoming students with a personal connection to the MIS program and fellow students upon arrival.

“Now this is some good work. I really appreciate MISGA's efforts”.

“While talking to students from other MIS programs, I came to know that they don’t have any association doing the kind of work that we are doing. All they have is the Indian Associations and they don’t provide support like (Eller College’s) MISGA does. So bravo”!

MISGA is the official student organization providing co-curricular support to students in the University Arizona’s MIS master program. The organization works to create a strong network among students, faculty, and alumni. Allowing students become refined technology professionals, providing social and professional opportunities for students to interact with industry and refine their skills during their time in the MIS program.
