Research Labs

Computer labs are an important vehicle to bring multiple individuals (faculty members, doctoral and master's students and organizational partners) together to explore areas of mutual interest. The MIS department at The University of Arizona has used such labs to conduct specific research that is often funded by various governmental agencies or businesses. Many computer companies such as IBM, HP, Cisco Systems and Microsoft have provide hardware and software to support MIS curriculum and research.

There are four labs that have become the centers of excellence in the last 30 years. The Center for the Management of Information (CMI) has been used to conduct research in group systems technologies. The Artificial Intelligence Lab has been instrumental in much of the research in text and data mining over the last decade.

The Advanced Database Research Group has pioneered state of art research in inter-operability across data bases through semantic data modeling and integration. More recently, the Hoffman E-Commerce lab has become the focus of much of e-commerce education as well as broader IT management education of our graduate students. This lab features an industry lab and a conference room to support business interaction on industry funded projects. A new deception detection lab is being funded by ARMY to support specific textual analysis.
