Meet & Follow MIS Master's Students on their Summer 2011 Internships

Vijay DJVijay Jayaraman Duraiswamy
sanofi, Oro Valley, AZ

"Finally it was June 6th, the two weeks of wait felt like more than a month after a hard fought semester in the Graduate School. As I was preparing myself for Interviews in the East Coast of US, Mr. Brian Ellerman approached me with an internship offer sanofi-aventis, a France based Pharmaceutical company. The job involved challenges in Business Intelligence and allowed full independence to work on the project, which made my decision easier.

I always visualized a pharma company is filled with employees dressed in lab coats, quite to my surprise I am yet to see a single one in the past 3 days. As in any company, first day of job involved paper work and orientations of where, who, when etc., which was followed by a great lunch with the team. The project appears more challenging than I expected, slowly unraveling itself in a slow but steady pace."

Pooja SinhaPooja Sinha
Ataccama, Stamford, CT

"Like many of my classmates, I had multiple internship opportunities but what was special was that I got all the four offers in just a week. Choosing Ataccama Corporation over others was not a difficult task for me. Being a student with absolutely no industry experience and a mere five months of experience in data analytics as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Arizona; this internship is special since it’s my “first real world job”.

As the data quality consultant intern I have learned a lot in the past few weeks’ right from managing data quality to conducting market research consulting. This experience has instilled me with confidence to take up any challenging future opportunities.

Stamford, Connecticut is a beautiful location to spend the summers. New York City being so close by weekends turns out to be a fun event.  With a perfect balance between work and pleasure, I am proud to be one of the very first interns at Ataccama Corporation."

Qualcomm, San Diego, CA

"Qualcomm is definitely a great company to work for and am lucky to have awesome people in my team. The work is a lot, but its nice and it keeps me so busy that at the end of the day I don't even realise when I doze off.

To top it all San Diego is a beautiful place - but I do miss Tucson. Guess in the past one year I didn't realize that Tucson has became home for me. I am sure many of my classmates thinks this same way. The day feels incomplete without entering into Eller's Ecom lab and talking about team meetings with my classmates."

Cummins, Minneapolis, MN

"Getting an Internship from multiple companies was a pleasant surprise to me but I chose Cummins for multiple reasons:

  1. Their work was more suited to experienced people like me.
  2. They hired mostly experienced people in my feild in IT.
  3. They offered a good compensation.
  4. There is a good chance (based on my performance) of converting my internship into a full-time opportunity. Many of my seniors, who were interns, are now working full-time there.
  5. They easily sponsor H1B visa which was important for international student like me."
