Areas of Emphasis
Gain Specific MIS Knowledge
An MIS Area of Emphasis is an acknowledged subset of classes which add a specific knowledge base to a student’s educational experience. Students completing an Area of Emphasis will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Acknowledgment for completing the emphasis area.
Emphasis in Information Assurance
The MIS Emphasis in Information Assurance provides a student with fundamentals in ethics, information security and risk management as it applies to security related issues. Students will learn the main points and issues a manager will face with regards to making informed information security decisions.
The MIS Emphasis in Information Assurance currently consists of the following classes:
Required courses
MIS 515 - Information Security in the Public and Private Sector
MIS 516 - Privacy, Information Security and Risk Analysis
In addition to the two required courses above, one of the optional courses below is needed to attain this emphasis
MIS 511 - Social and Ethical Issues of the Internet
MIS 517 - Systems Security Management
In addition to the Certificate of Acknowledgment in Information Assurance, students completing MIS 515, MIS 516 and MIS 517 are also eligible to receive NSA/CNSS Information Assurance certificates.
